IMPROVEMENT WORK ON THE WEBSITE OF THE INDONESIAN NATURAL PRODUCTS LIBRARY

Abstract

The Indonesian Natural Products Library (INPL) is an important archive for Indonesia's extensive biodiversity, providing useful information to scholars and the general public. However, its website confronts issues such as poor accessibility, low user engagement, and an out-of-date design. This study intends to improve the INPL website's functionality, user experience, and reach. The study takes a mixed-methods approach, integrating user surveys, usability testing, and heuristic evaluations to identify important concerns. To implement best practices, a benchmarking examination of similar databases from around the world is undertaken. Iterative design improvements are done using agile development techniques, followed by a pilot testing phase with key stakeholders. The findings show that major hurdles in navigation, search capabilities, and information presentation impede successful utilisation. Improved features such as an intuitive interface, advanced search options, and multimedia capabilities have significantly increased user satisfaction. The new website also raised interaction metrics by 35% during the pilot phase. To sum up, the upgrading of the INPL website highlights the importance of user-centred design and iterative development in digital library platforms. These changes position INPL as a more accessible and dependable resource, helping to promote and utilise Indonesia's natural goods on a global scale.
